CHAMPS Oncology's Quality Assessments Ensure Cancer Registry Data is Reliable

Cancer Registry DataCHAMPS Oncology conducts individual abstractor and database assessments to ensure cancer registry data is reliable and equipped for administrative planning, clinical outcomes and performance measures, as well as NCDB benchmark reporting, and cancer program standards focused on data submissions and accuracy.

In recent years, the Commission on Cancer has put more emphasis on utilizing the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) data quality tools (CP3R, RQRS, CQIP, as well as Completeness, Benchmark and Survival reports) to evaluate, interpret and report on the program’s performance.

“I would recommend CHAMPS Oncology to other cancer programs because of their confidence, reliability, quality and accessibility,” said Teri Parker, RN, MSN, OCN, Program Director, Cancer Services, OhioHealth Doctors Hospital. “I can now trust the data, timeliness, accuracy, NCDB submission, RQRS support, and on and on.”

In order to prepare cancer registry data for Commission on Cancer commendation status, the highly skilled data quality experts at CHAMPS Oncology go above and beyond national and state reporting requirements by analyzing the registry data prior to submission through a series of quality assessments, including:

Individual Abstractor Assessment:

  • Ensures data accuracy and completeness.
  • Reviews key data fields for analysis and reporting.
  • Provides overall abstracting/coding competency.

Database Assessment:

  • Performs customized reliability studies designed to reveal inconsistencies with the data.
  • Conducts audits aimed to improve CP3R, Completeness and NCDB reports.
  • Provides registry database quality evaluation.
