AHA Advancing Health Podcast Profiles Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and King County, Washington, Collaborative Assessment and Improvement Planning Efforts



Kirstin CraciunThe value of community collaboration as experienced through collaborative assessment and improvement planning in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and King County, Washington was highlighted in this AHA Advancing Health podcast led by Nancy Myers, American Hospital Association (AHA) vice president of leadership and system innovation. Cuyahoga County’s experience was recounted by Kirstin Craciun, director of community outreach at The Center for Health Affairs and King County, Washington’s efforts were described by Chelene Whiteaker, senior vice president of government affairs at the Washington State Hospital Association.

Support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention enabled AHA and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) to work together to identify community-based collaboratives in which health systems, health departments and local partners have used collaborative assessment and improvement planning to advance health and well-being. Described in this AHA Advancing Health podcast are the importance of building trust, the critical need for leadership buy-in, how existing consortiums – such as HIP-Cuyahoga – have been instrumental in spurring action, the role that meeting and partnership rules can play in advancing collaborative work, and steps being taken to work on addressing shared priorities.
