StudentMAX Program Enhancements Approach Implementation

The Center for Health Affairs, and its workforce initiative NEONI, have rolled out a new fee structure for StudentMAXTM, the online program used by area hospitals and schools of nursing to manage their student clinical placements.  The new fee structure is designed to more evenly distribute program costs between hospitals and schools of nursing. The organization is also evaluating the addition of new capabilities that will complement the current StudentMAXTM offerings.

Beginning January 1, 2012, StudentMAXTM program fees will encompass a uniform access fee in addition to a fee based on the number of students associated with each organization within the clinical database for the 2010-2011 academic year. Currently, annual fees are based on hospital’s registered bed size and pre-licensure student enrollment, which over time penalized some low-volume users and did not adequately charge other high-volume users nor account for program growth.

The Center and NEONI are committed to maintaining this new fee structure in 2013 barring any significant or unforeseen operations or license increases we are obliged to incur.

In addition to the new fee structure, NEONI is exploring offering the ACE Passport System for Ohio users in the 2011-2012 academic year, at the request of NEONI’s StudentMAXTM partners. The ACE Passport System, developed by the Michigan Health Council, is a web-based online learning system that verifies students have completed certain requirements prior to beginning their clinical placements. This program is designed to import and integrate placement data directly from StudentMAXTM. NEONI is currently reviewing the ACE Passport System with its StudentMAXTM users as to whether it meets their needs. A decision will be made in early 2012 as to whether we move forward with this system for fall 2012.
