The Center for Health Affairs, in coordination with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), the Northeast Ohio county and city health departments and member hospitals, is closely monitoring the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19; nCoV) to ensure hospitals are prepared to care for COVID-19 patients while protecting their staff as the nation proceeds with a mass-vaccination initiative while continuing to manage surges in infections.

As the coronavirus situation evolves daily, the most up-to-date Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance for hospitals can be found on the CDC website.

National Public Health Emergency Extended
Effective Jan. 16, 2022, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra renewed the national public health emergency declaration, allowing it to remain in effect for another 90 days. The renewal, which expires April 16, maintains the blanket waivers implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. These include the expansion of telehealth services among a number of others that facilitate hospital pandemic response. This is the eighth renewal of the emergency declaration, which first began Jan. 31, 2020 with a declaration by former HHS Secretary Alex M. Azar II.

COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Materials, Ambassador Toolkit Available on Healthy Northeast Ohio Website

Healthy Northeast Ohio, the online resource designed to provide access to population health data, evidence-based practices and information about regional health resources and activities, has been updated with COVID-19 vaccine distribution information and a Vaccine Ambassador Toolkit for advocates to help build confidence and trust in having effective conversations about COVID-19 vaccines.
