    An Introduction to Substance Use Disorders
    A Systems Approach to Screening, Intervention and Referral to Treatment



    Review possible symptoms of substance use disorder and how substance use disorders are medically diagnosed. Learn different types of risk assessment tools used in best practices to determine a patient’s risk of having a substance use disorder.

    (50 minutes/1 CE)
    Caring for Complex Medical Patients with Co-Occurring Disorders
    Introduction to Substance Use Disorders (SUD): A Systems Approach to Screening, Intervention, and Referral to Treatment


    Review alcoholic hepatitis and other chronic illnesses intersecting with substance use disorders, and identify special considerations and nursing interventions for those with chronic pain and opioid use disorder.

    Nursing Interventions and Treatment Options
    Introduction to Substance Use Disorders (SUD): A Systems Approach to Screening, Intervention, and Referral to Treatment


    Identify types of medication used to treat substance use disorders during withdrawal period and, learn the CIWA, CINA and COWS withdrawal assessments.

    Managing Difficult Behaviors Exhibited by Patients, Family Members and Visitors
    Introduction to Substance Use Disorders (SUD): A Systems Approach to Screening, Intervention, and Referral to Treatment

    Learn the behavioral characteristics to identify patient needs and support positive interactions during stressful situations. Introduce the Lowline Theoretical Model, HEART Model, and the Harris Model to manage difficult behaviors and emotionally charged situations to produce healthy outcomes.
