Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium Launches Healthcare Support Staff Education

Healthcare Support Staff EducationThe Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium is excited to announce the launch of a new online healthcare support staff education opportunity designed to provide an increased understanding of opioid use disorder to enhance patient care and reduce stigma. Developed in collaboration with nurse education partners within each Opioid Consortium hospital system, the training is intended for ancillary staff who work in various health care environments that serve patients.

The 30-minute introductory course, free to all Opioid Consortium members, aims to teach healthcare support staff about the disease of addiction, how to communicate with empathy, use verbal de-escalation techniques and how to implement tools to help patients and families receive needed services.

Housed at The Center for Health Affairs, the Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium aims to mitigate the opioid crisis through the Opioid Consortium strategic plan, which includes:
  • Education of hospital employees across the healthcare continuum.
  • Use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
  • Expanded distribution and use of Naloxone.
