The Center for Health Affairs and its workforce initiative, NEONI, have been awarded a Workforce Innovations Solutions grant in the amount of $20,374.62, from the Ohio Board of Regents. This grant, running from through June 30, 2011, is being used to support NEONI's pilot to facilitate clinical placements for allied health students in Northeast Ohio using, StudentMAX™ . StudentMAX™ is a web-based software tool that improves the ease and reduces the amount of faculty time and effort spent on scheduling clinical placements for students. Northeast Ohio clinical and educational institutions are already using StudentMAX™ for nursing students.
The goal of the Workforce Innovations Solutions grant pilot is to improve clinical placement capacity, increase access to new clinical sites, and allow greater ease in matching allied health students with clinical placements. The program includes students from Cuyahoga Community College, Lakeland Community College, Lorain County Community College, Kent State University Ashtabula Campus, Stark State College, The University of Akron and Youngstown State University who are seeking occupational therapy assistant, physical therapy assistant, laboratory technician and respiratory therapist placements at Cleveland Clinic, Southwest General Hospital and Summa Health System.
StudentMAX™ is currently used in 12 states and is available to the entire state of Ohio through NEONI's exclusive license. Since its Ohio debut in 2006, NEONI has used StudentMAX™ to place more than 37,000 students from 29 nursing school programs in 27 hospitals.
