Back to all News ReleasesAugust 15, 2012 (Cleveland)Bill Ryan Speaks about Federal Healthcare Reform at The City Club of Cleveland
Did you catch The City Club of Cleveland’s August 10th panel discussion on the hot topic of
federal healthcare reform? Panelists included The Center's President and CEO Bill Ryan; John Begala, executive director of the Center for Community Solutions; and Danny Williams, executive director of The Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland.
Moderated by Diane Suchetka, health reporter for The Plain Dealer, panelists helped shed light on the federal healthcare reform law and the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling which upheld the bulk of the law. Panelists began by stressing that the law is incredibly complex and many implications of the federal healthcare reform law’s Supreme Court verdict are still unknown.
Also discussed was the role that politics has played in shaping the public’s understanding of the law as well as whether or not governors have chosen to expand their state’s Medicaid program. Ohio Governor John Kasich has yet to signal whether or not the Medicaid program will be expanded in Ohio.
Panelists also touched on the importance of prevention and the need to figure out how to deliver primary care to populations that currently aren’t very well served. More work remains to be done as significant issues with the delivery of healthcare remain.
