Back to all News ReleasesMarch 05, 2012 (Cleveland)The Center for Health Affairs Board Supports Issue 15: Cuyahoga County Health & Human Services Levy
The Board of Trustees for The Center for Health Affairs, the leading advocate for Northeast Ohio hospitals, has formally endorsed Issue 15, the Cuyahoga County Health and Human Services levy.
The levy, which appears on the March 6 ballot, funds a variety of programs for vulnerable populations in the county, including children and the elderly. It is the larger of two Cuyahoga County levies that, combined, generate $220 million in revenue that is then used to leverage significant additional state and federal funding for local services.
The 4.8-mill levy is a renewal, not a new tax, and it equates to $147 per year for a house valued at $100,000.
Issue 15, the Cuyahoga County levy, will generate approximately $140 million, which amounts to about 60 percent of the health and human service budget. Programs funded by the levy provide support to:
- Children at risk of abuse or neglect.
- Senior citizens wishing to remain in their homes.
- The provision of indigent care, LifeFlight services, and the trauma and burn centers at MetroHealth Medical Center.
- Community mental health and addiction treatment as well as suicide prevention services.
Recognizing the importance of the levy to the community and the vital services it supports, The Center’s Board unreservedly offered its endorsement.
As the leading advocate for Northeast Ohio hospitals, The Center for Health Affairs provides members with vital services and resources aimed at enhancing the region’s healthcare community. The Center delivers on this goal by focusing its efforts on areas that benefit from a regional approach: Finance & Reimbursement, Workforce Development, Emergency Preparedness, Policy & Advocacy, and Community Initiatives. With a rich history as the Northeast Ohio hospital association, dating back to 1916, The Center serves as the collective voice of hospitals and the source for Northeast Ohio hospital and healthcare information.
