There are many factors that play a role in how hospitals deliver care. Just as in other industries, hospital leaders must understand the marketplace and adjust to its changes in order to carry out their missions. Today hospitals are facing an environment typified by tightening reimbursement, a stagnant economy, and shifting demographics. Staying viable means changing with the times and that is just what Northeast Ohio hospitals are doing.
While it’s impossible to know exactly what the future holds, carefully studying both the community and policy changes that influence the hospital environment can provide important clues about the ways in which hospitals must adapt in order to continue to effectively care for their communities.
The Center’s latest issue brief, entitled Changing Environment, Changing Market: How Northeast Ohio Hospitals are Evolving to Serve their Communities, examines the community and policy changes that are shaping the hospital environment both nationally and locally and how Greater Cleveland hospitals are adapting to these changes to meet the needs of their communities.
