Healthcare employers that have struggled with employees who claim unemployment while not seeking work, or with PRN employees simultaneously receiving unemployment and restricting the hours they work, received some welcome news in February, according to a recent blog post by Andy Dobrin, vice president, CHAMPS Human Resources, a business affiliate of The Center for Health Affairs. A new law, the
Middle Class Tax Relief Act and Job Creation Act of 2012, now requires states to actively enforce the requirement that claimants be able to work, available to work and actively seeking work.
Thanks to the law, the state of Ohio will now need to show proof that they are actively enforcing claimants’ responsibility to:
- Register for employment services
- Engage in an active search for employment that is appropriate given current circumstances
- Maintain a record of work search
- Provide work search record to the state agency
