Catherine S. Koppelman, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, the system chief nursing officer at University Hospitals and the chief nursing officer for University Hospitals Case Medical Center presented to nearly 65 attendees at NEONI’s 11th Annual Fall Conference, entitled Nursing Professionalism: How To Get There in Academia & Practice. The Conference was held on Oct. 26 at The University of Akron, Medina County University Center.
During the conference, Koppelman discussed specific characteristics that define nursing professionalism and related them back to the field of nursing and healthcare. She stressed the importance of instructors, mentors and managers educating their students and staff about upholding high standards that are grounded in nursing best practices.
“It was a day that reminded the audience we are part of a great profession that has the responsibility to strive for excellence, model altruistic behaviors in patient care and serve those in need,” said Sue Zagula, BSN, RN, director of placement services, The Center for Health Affairs.
Koppelman also provided insight about how today’s modern technologies can be used in a manner that keeps the confidentiality and dignity of the patients, both in the classroom and the workplace.
“She is always an excellent speaker,” one attendee said of Koppelman. “The topics are always related to current issues affecting nurse practitioners.”
