The Center Delivers Medicaid Reform Testimony to City Council

Medicaid ReformThe Center for Health Affairs participated in a discussion about Medicaid reform with Cleveland City Council and advocates from the Northeast Ohio healthcare community on Thursday, May 17. Tony Gutowski, public policy development manager, provided testimony to the Health and Human Services Committee and discussed the benefits that Medicaid reform would have on the region’s hospitals and uninsured population.

Led by Councilman Joe Cimperman, the meeting was attended by advocates for those with behavioral health concerns and disabilities, who were joined by representatives from the hospital provider community. Each testimony highlighted the impact that Medicaid reform would have on its organization’s constituency, and was followed by a brief question and answer period.

The Committee has passed a resolution urging the Ohio General Assembly to expand the current Medicaid program as it was originally proposed in Governor Kasich’s Biennium Budget. As this process moves forward, The Center will continue its work educating legislators about the virtues of Medicaid reform.
