ASPR Grant Hospitals Receive Site Visits from The Center’s Emergency Preparedness Team

This fall The Center’s Emergency Preparedness team has conducted 27 site visits to Northeast Ohio hospitals that receive Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) funding, with four visits scheduled to complete before the end of the year. The ASPR grant site visits are required as part of the $1.38 million in hospital emergency preparedness funds awarded to The Center for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

Leading the ASPR grant site visits are Beth Gatlin, ASPR project director and Andrea Bishop, emergency preparedness project. Though required to make site visits to ASPR grant recipient hospitals every two years, The Center’s team makes a point to meet with the area’s emergency management teams every 18 months.

Depending on the specific needs of each site, The Center’s role can vary at each visit. They spend time delivering any regional purchase items needed by the site and dedicate two to four hours minimally discussing the following topics with emergency management teams:

• Inventory review
• ASPR grant budgeting and spending
• Emergency preparedness education and training
• Compliance with the ASPR grant contract
• How The Center can assist their teams
