Panel Discusses Evolving Role of Patient Navigators

Carol SantaluciaOn Friday, October 11, 2013, The Northeast Ohio Patient Navigation Collaborative, in conjunction with The Center for Health Affairs and the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio convened a panel to discuss the evolving role of patient navigators. The event, moderated by Carol Santalucia of CHAMPS Patient Experience, was held at MetroHealth’s main campus in Cleveland.

Panelists included representatives from the Cuyahoga Health Access Partnership (CHAP), MetroHealth Medical Center, Lakewood Hospital, CareSource, the Carmella Rose Health Foundation, and The Center for Health Affairs. Each panelist brought a unique perspective that demonstrated the various ways patient navigation has been used to enhance patient experience within their organization or institution. In addition, speakers had the opportunity to discuss the current state of patient navigation in Ohio and what the role of patient navigators will be moving forward.

The event concluded with an interactive question and answer period that gave the audience an opportunity to ask panelists questions directly. Attendees were also encouraged to continue the discussion by submitting questions to CHAMPS' forum on patient experience.
