Back to all News ReleasesDecember 04, 2014 (Cleveland)Issue Brief Featured in HealthLeaders Piece on Demands for Price Transparency

On Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, The Center for Health Affairs' November Issue Brief on Hospital Price Transparency was featured in a HealthLeaders Media piece on demands for price transparency.
In the piece, "Demands for Price Transparency Pressure Providers," The Center's Vice President of Corporate Communications Deanna Moore is quoted on the Issue Brief. "There are so many different players that are part of the purchase decision. Sometimes, especially with inpatient care and emergency situations, you don't know what you're getting into."
The HealthLeaders Media piece also highlights the section of the Issue Brief which focuses on the important role health insurers play in transparency:
A key participant in any effective price transparency initiative is health insurers. While a hospital can post a list of charges for common treatments, and even proactively provide information to individual patients in advance of their treatments, this information is of little value to consumers who are trying to determine the actual prices and, from there, the portion of the costs they'll be responsible for paying.
