WEWS Piece Highlights The Center's Report on Emergency Room Visits

WEWSOn Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, a report published by The Center for Health Affairs analyzing the recent rise in Northeast Ohio emergency department visits was highlighted by WEWS News Channel 5.

In the piece, "Increase in Ohio emergency room visits closely watched in wake of Affordable Care Act," WEWS examines the link between emergency room visits across Ohio and the Affordable Care Act. It cites The Center's latest Key Indicators report saying, "A recently released report by the Center for Health Affairs found a 5.16 percent increase in North East Ohio emergency room visits compared with the third quarter of 2013. But the report warns those visits have been increasing for over a decade and the impact of the ACA is difficult to determine." The Center’s report goes on to suggest that normal cyclical patterns and the ongoing trend of rising emergency department volume are most likely behind the recent uptick in ED visitors.
