HR Networking Group Established to Address Shared Challenges in Northeast Ohio’s Healthcare Environment

As part of The Center's strategic direction to build a strong healthcare workforce, The Center for Health Affairs has initiated the development of an HR networking group, or the Northeast Ohio Healthcare HR Forum, to address shared challenges faced by healthcare HR professionals in Northeast Ohio.

In early 2014, the group identified the following as top challenges to focus on in 2014.

  • Following and adapting to changes in the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Affordable Act and Affirmative Action Plans.
  • Managing costs such as benefits and turnovers.
  • Balancing an HR workload with competing priorities and demands.
  • Recruiting and compensating advanced practice registered nurses and nursing managers.

Pam Waite“Our goal is to eventually establish a regional HR networking group that will serve as a resource to address and help solve these and other HR challenges in Northeast Ohio’s changing healthcare environment,” said Pam Waite, MSN, RN-BC, MHSA, director of healthcare workforce and NEONI operations, The Center for Health Affairs.

At the most recent meeting in April, Belinda Groppi, HR manager, University Hospitals Bedford Medical Center, facilitated a discussion on legal and regulatory changes impacting healthcare HR professionals. The next meeting will focus on defining unemployment benefits.
