Volume Statistics Program Updates Cut Turn-Around Time in Half

Vol Stats LoginThe Center for Health Affairs is pleased to announce Volume Statistics program updates aimed at making the tool easier and more efficient for members. While there are a number of enhancements that are a part of the upgrade, perhaps the most important is the substantial decrease in reporting turn-around time. Prior to the update, it took 40 days for data to be published. Currently, reports are distributed at a much faster rate of about 22 days following the end of the reporting period, a 50 percent reduction in turn-around time.

In addition to faster turn-around time, the Volume Statistics program updates also include more efficient data submission and data correction mechanisms. Another key upgrade to the program is a new members-only website, which resulted in:

  • Secure login functionality
  • Automated password support
  • One-button access to the current Volume Statistics report
  • An easy-to-access archive of previously published PDF reports

“We anticipate these upgrades will improve the way members are able to use the report − from creating individual, customized reports to running ad-hoc reports when necessary,” explained George Jeney, project manager. Mr. Jeney, who made site visits to each member hospital to assess how the report is being used and ways to improve it, continued, “We also work with The Center’s Volume Statistics Advisory Committee to ensure the data is as valuable as possible and that it is accurate and consistent across the membership.”

Volume Statistics is an initiative that collects hospital volume data from 30 Northeast Ohio hospitals and compiles it in convenient, up-to-date reports on a password protected webpage. The sophisticated program gives member hospitals access to volume data such as discharges, scheduled surgical cases and total emergency department cases.
