Report Examines 2015 Hospital Volume in Northeast Ohio

Key Indicators LoginHospital volume in Northeast Ohio had its fair share of fluctuation in 2015, according to a recently published Key Indicators Report on hospital market trends by The Center for Health Affairs. While early reports showed hospital volume growing in nearly every category during the first two quarters, year-end totals told a different story, with most hospitals reporting less overall volume in 2015 than in 2014. However, a number of indicators demonstrated significant growth in volume during the year, including:

  • Observations
  • Psychiatric/Chemical Dependency
  • Outpatient Surgical Cases

Overall, hospital volume in Northeast Ohio decreased by less than 1 percent in on-campus ED admissions, total patient discharges and inpatient surgical cases. Demonstrating a modest year-end total growth was the number of total patient days, which increased by just 1.06 percent in comparison to 2014. As the Key Indicators Report highlights, The Center is expecting several indicators to continue their growth through 2016, specifically psychiatric/chemical dependency volume and outpatient surgical cases.
