Value of Membership 38 to 1 Says Member ROI Report

Member-ROI-ReportThe 2016 member ROI Report, released on Sept. 22 at The Center for Health Affairs board meeting, shows a return on investment of 38.27. In other words, for every dollar member hospitals paid in dues in 2016, they received $38.27 in value. This information was released as part of an update to The Center’s strategic direction metrics package that includes an annual member ROI Report and semi-annual Strategic Direction Scorecard.
The Strategic Direction Scorecard, covering activities that occurred in the first six months of 2016, includes metrics in four categories, which reflect the association’s community roles: to inform, to connect and convene, to spur participation and to produce outcomes. Providing value, another role of the organization, is reflected in the Return on Investment Report, which details member ROI. Metrics in each of these areas provide a snapshot of The Center’s progress on its 3-year strategic direction, which spans 2014-2016. Selected achievements from the scorecard include:

  • The Center’s emergency preparedness team spent 284 hours planning, attending and coordinating meetings in preparation for the RNC.
  • The Center coordinated 20 behavioral health trainings and meetings to bring together behavioral health professionals from the public and private sector in Cuyahoga County and the Northeast Ohio region.
  • The updated Nursing Forecaster shows that one-third of all the nurses in the state work in Northeast Ohio.
  • Northeast Ohio hospitals account for 167,543 jobs and create $11.5 billion in labor income according to a newly released economic impact report.
A supplemental piece was released in conjunction with the member ROI Report to provide additional information about The Center’s metrics and how they were derived. The ROI Report Assumptions outlines the value of each program, how the value was calculated and the associated costs. It also highlights the assumptions used by the association in determining member ROI such as:

  • Numbers presented in the ROI Report are The Center’s best estimates of cost and value and are subject to interpretation.
  • Estimates are intentionally conservative and are on the low side.
  • In some cases where it is difficult to estimate, value is simply stated as cost.
