Waite Presents on Nursing Workforce at Chamberlain College of Nursing

The Northeast Ohio nursing workforce was the topic of discussion during an advisory board meeting at Chamberlain College of Nursing on Thursday, Dec. 7. 

Pam Waite, MSN, RN-BC, MHSA, director of healthcare workforce and NEONI operations, The Center for Health Affairs, presented NEONI’s Nursing Forecaster to help explain the future nursing workforce in Northeast Ohio.

By utilizing this forecaster tool NEONI can predict supply and demand for licensed practical nurses, registered nurses and advanced practice nurses in a given area. It provides a precise way of assisting nursing leaders and educators in their efforts to plan and prepare a future nursing workforce.

According to NEONI’s 2015 Forecaster, the shortage of nurses in Northeast Ohio is expected to increase from 750 to 3,500 by 2020. In early 2018, the Forecaster will be updated using the 2017 registered nurse licensure renewal data.

“Everyone in the room was very engaged, which made for a great discussion on nursing workforce, NEONI’s Forecaster and nurse retention,” said Waite. “As the newest member of Chamberlain’s advisory board, it was an honor to share NEONI’s work and lead this discussion.”

Nearly 40 people were in attendance at this meeting, including representatives from the advisory board as well as other leaders and faculty from Chamberlain.
