State-Level Population Health Planning: Upcoming SHA/SHIP Webinar Opportunities and Key Findings for Hospitals
Throughout 2016, a diverse group of stakeholders met to help shape the focus of state-level population health planning. This work resulted in the development of the State Health Assessment (SHA) and State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP). Led by the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation, the Ohio Department of Health and the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, work on the SHA and the SHIP wrapped up in February 2017.
SHA/SHIP Webinar Opportunities for The Center's Members
Members interested in learning more about the implications of state-level population health planning for hospitals in Northeast Ohio are invited to join The Center’s member’s only SHA/SHIP webinar on Thursday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. - 1 a.m. or on Monday, Feb. 27 from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. The SHA/SHIP webinar will cover key findings from SHA and the SHIP; the process used to develop the SHA/SHIP; and implications for Northeast Ohio.
Key SHA/SHIP Findings for Hospitals
The SHA provides a comprehensive and actionable picture of the health and well-being in Ohio. Work on the SHA helped inform the identification of three priority topics for Ohio:
1. Chronic Disease
2. Maternal and Infant Health
3. Mental Health and Addiction
The corresponding SHIP arms state agency leaders, hospitals, local health departments, and other key stakeholders with a strategic menu of priorities, objectives and evidence-based strategies that can be used to support local collaborative planning to address the three priority topics.
State-level population health planning has numerous implications for those working at the local level. The SHA and the SHIP aim to spur greater alignment among local and state entities working to improve community health. Additionally, there is a focus on achieving greater collaboration, more efficient resource allocation and more transparent community benefit spending at the local level. Final versions of the SHA and the SHIP, community strategy toolkits, and local planning guidance are available on the Ohio Department of Health’s website.
