Road Trip to Pittsburgh: Panel Presentation at NACCHO Annual MeetingThe Center for Health Affairs recently collaborated with stakeholders representing the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and HIP-Cuyahoga on a panel presentation at the National Association of County and City Health Officials’ (NACCHO) annual meeting in Pittsburgh. The session – Separated at Birth: Reunifying Clinical Medicine and Public Health in Cuyahoga County – was moderated by Terry Allan, Cuyahoga County Health Commissioner, and included the following speakers:

  • Dr. Heidi Gullett, Assistant Professor at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, HIP-Cuyahoga co-chair, and The Center’s HealthComp Foundation board chair
  • Martha Halko, Deputy Director of Prevention and Wellness at the Cuyahoga County Board of Health
  • Kirstin Craciun, MPP, MSW, Director of Community Outreach at The Center for Health Affairs

The theme for NACCHO Annual 2017 “Bridging Clinical Medicine and Population Health,” allowed the Northeast Ohio contingent to share the momentum that Cuyahoga County is currently experiencing. Dr. Gullett’s presentation covered the new public health paradigm, her role as the population health liaison between the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and Case Western Reserve University, and her critical involvement in teaching health equity. Halko shared Cuyahoga County health rankings data and HIP-Cuyahoga’s structure and key priority areas and Craciun described the federal and state-level action that guides current work on community health needs assessments and population health improvement planning and how that will impact future work on health assessments.
