Back to all News ReleasesMay 26, 2017 (Cleveland)Observations, Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Year-End Hospital Volumes Continued to Grow in 2016
The latest Key Indicators Report on hospital market trends by The Center for Health Affairs examined year-end hospital volumes in 2016. Among the many trends affecting providers in Northeast Ohio was the average length of stay for psychiatric and chemical dependency, which increased by 4.29 percent in 2016 in comparison to 2015. Additionally, the number of observation patients increased by just over 3 percent in 2016, with a particularly large spike of over 10 percent during the fourth quarter of 2016.
Other key highlights in 2016 included:
- Total patient days decreased by 2.75 percent
- Total outpatient surgeries increased by 5.42 percent
- Total patient discharges decreased by 2.26 percent
