Hospital Opioid Consortium Executive Team Presents to U.S. Attorney’s Taskforce

Hospital Opioid Consortium Executive Team Presents to U.S. Attorney’s Taskforce On Sept. 6, the Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium proudly sponsored, "Opioids: A Crisis Still Facing Our Entire Region,” a heroin and opioid conference hosted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. During the conference, executive team members from the Hospital Opioid Consortium participated on a panel. Held at the Cleveland Clinic Intercontinental Hotel, the day-long event provided an opportunity to hear from many committed to curbing the opioid epidemic including those from the law enforcement, healthcare and public health communities.

During the hospital Opioid Consortium panel, Dr. Randy Jernejcic, chair of the Consortium and vice president of clinical integration for University Hospitals, along with colleagues from Ohio hospital members, discussed ways in which the Opioid Consortium provides an opportunity to address this public health crisis through collaboration. The panel also discussed individual methods hospitals are employing to address the epidemic, which provided the opportunity for learning among institutions. The clinicians and organizations representing the Opioid Consortium included:

  • Dr. Tom Collins, The Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio
  • Dr. David Streem, Cleveland Clinic
  • Dr. Joan Papp, MetroHealth
  • Dr. Ted Parran, St. Vincent’s Charity Medical Center
  • Dr. Jeanne Lackamp, University Hospitals
  • Dr. Kevin Smith, Cleveland VA Medical Center

The event also provided an opportunity to revisit the U.S. Attorney’s multifaceted action plan, with breakout sessions focused on the group’s existing subcommittees: law enforcement, treatment and healthcare policy, education and prevention, and data and analytics. Moving forward, the hospital Opioid Consortium will continue its work with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to align its strategic plan.
