Craciun Moderates Panel on Connection between Healthcare and Community Development

On Wednesday, April 24, Kirstin Craciun, director of community outreach for The Center for Health Affairs, moderated a panel on the connection between healthcare and community development co-hosted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

Panelists included:

• Felipe Barroso, senior associate, Healthcare Engagement, The Democracy Collaborative
• Greg Brown, executive director, PolicyBridge, and co-chair, HIP-Cuyahoga
• Amy Sheon, executive director, Urban Health Initiative, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine 

Craciun shared information about how hospitals are aligning their community health improvement efforts with public health and looking for opportunities to partner with the community development sector to more effectively address social determinants of health.

Topics addressed during the panel discussion included:

• An overview of HIP-Cuyahoga and how data and other information spearheaded a change in efforts to address social determinants of health.
• How lack of broadband and internet in low and moderate-income communities create a barrier for healthcare.
• What it means to be an anchor institution and examples of partnerships with financial institutions.
