Did you know…?
- In 2018, 23.8% of children in Ashtabula County were living in households experiencing food insecurity and 30.5% lived below the federal poverty level, compared to 13.7% and 8.9% in Medina County respectively.
- Across a five-county region in Northeast Ohio, encompassing Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina and Portage, the percentage of adults who have an independent living difficulty ranges from 11.7% to 16.5%, with a median of 13.5%.
- Also in those five counties, the all cancer incidence rate from 2012 to 2016 ranged from 449.9 per 100,000 people in Ashtabula County to 476.3 in Cuyahoga, with a media of 473.4 for the region.
These statistics are just a sampling of what can be found on the
Healthy Northeast Ohio website, a rich source of population health data spanning the five counties mentioned above. As a neutral repository of de-identified health information, the website can benefit individuals working in a variety of sectors by providing data to support strategic planning decisions and health improvement activities.
Launched in late 2019, Healthy Northeast Ohio is a joint initiative of The Center for Health Affairs and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH), supported by funding from the
HealthComp Foundation. It includes more than 150 health and quality-of-life data indicators, with more coming soon, that can be visualized in a variety of formats. The site includes specialty dashboards, such as the SocioNeeds Index, as well as the ability to build custom dashboards and create maps.
In May, The Center and CCBH hosted a series of webinars, one tailored to each of the five participating counties, which allowed participants to learn how to:
- Explore regional, county and local health data and trends over time.
- Create custom reports and dashboards.
- Review the Promising Practices database and submit community-based interventions.
- Search for resources and funding opportunities.
- Access COVID-19 data, community resources and local public health information.
The primary goals of the webinars were to build awareness and increase utilization of the website, with related goals of supporting the development of relationships and partnerships among community organizations and assisting with the generation of funding to support the ongoing operation of the site. Monthly visits to the site increased by more than 60% from April to July.
The webinars, which were rated as “very good” or “excellent” by 94% of attendees in a follow-up survey, are available to hospital and public health department partners. For more information on the Healthy Northeast Ohio website or to request a webinar for your organization, contact us.
