A Statement From The Center for Health Affairs on Derek Chauvin Verdict

Eliminate Structural RacismYesterday's guilty verdict against Derek Chauvin brings accountability for the murder of George Floyd and delivers a sense of relief for our community and nation. In this moment, our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Floyd and the families in our community who have experienced similar pain — families like the relatives of Tamir Rice, a child killed in our own backyard.

In the year since the tragic death of Mr. Floyd, racial injustice and unconscionable killings continue to afflict our nation. Our community and country must continue the work towards equal justice for all and demand accountability from those in power — those who subject people of color to acts of injustice. We stand in solidarity with the peaceful activists who are leading this fight. The only way true justice will be achieved is when our neighbors can live their lives freely and without fear.

The driving force of the community health work led by The Center for Health Affairs is to achieve equitable and improved health outcomes for all – that means confronting racism as a public health crisis. The Center for Health Affairs stands united with our member hospitals, public health partners, community partners and residents in the work to ensure that all individuals can achieve their highest health potential. Eliminating structural racism is a critical community health priority that our partners, including hospitals, are committed to addressing now and in the future.
