Last month, Amy Terry, MSC, director of member programming for The Center for Health Affairs, presented one of the continuing education sessions, “Cross Sector Partnerships to Advance Health Equity” at Premier’s 2023 Breakthroughs conference and exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee — a three-day conference showcasing the latest in technology, artificial intelligence, labor optimization, health equity, supplier innovation and more.
Designed for anyone in the healthcare industry looking to communicate across healthcare’s broad continuum, attendees were able to earn continuing education hours by creating a tailored curriculum from more than 80 concurrent sessions. In Terry’s session, attendees learned about innovative multisector collaboration and change at the systems level and how it might address complex and intertwined issues associated with health equity. The session highlighted two such collaborations undertaken by The Center for Health Affairs to improve health equity in our community: Healthy Northeast Ohio and the Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium.
Terry highlighted the impact made by the Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium which is comprised of hospitals and community agencies led by physicians with a goal to reduce the impact of the opioid crisis in Ohio. The Opioid Consortium focuses on strategic partnerships, education, policy & advocacy, research, and innovation with a goal to reduce stigma associated with treatment and recovery.
Additional objectives discussed:
- Why data is an important facet of achieving health equity.
- How multi-sector collaborations can be used to address complex and intertwined factors associated with health equity.
- Understanding how to build effective multi-sector collaborations.
Breakthroughs allowed attendees to engage with industry leaders, talk directly to suppliers and participate in panel discussions. The annual event features prominent speakers dedicated to inspiring and challenging attendees to build a better tomorrow.
