About The Center: The Leading Advocate for Northeast Ohio Hospitals

With a rich history as the nation’s first regional hospital association, The Center for Health Affairs has served as the collective voice of Northeast Ohio hospitals for over 100 years. More than a century since its incorporation in 1916, The Center continues the legacy of its founders, working collaboratively to increase the efficiency of healthcare delivery, providing insightful healthcare information to the public and undertaking initiatives aimed at improving the health of the community. Despite a century of rapid evolution in healthcare, The Center has adapted, constantly enhancing its service offerings to meet the changing needs of its Northeast Ohio hospital members. Today, The Center’s efforts focus on areas that benefit from a regional approach:

The Center's Subsidiaries

One of The Center's most significant evolutions was the creation of its subsidiaries, CHAMPS Group Purchasing and The Essentials Group:

CHAMPS Group Purchasing

CHAMPS Group Purchasing leverages the purchasing power of 20,000+ member locations across the United States. CHAMPS GPO members gain access to significant savings in product categories including medical / surgical supplies, foodservice, IT, wireless, office supplies and facility maintenance. Together with its national GPO partner Premier, CHAMPS supports member supply chain initiatives through their expertise in contract management, aggregation savings, supply chain technology, spend analytics and customized service.

The Essentials Group

The Essentials Group is the gateway to the right products and services for The Center's members and clients to take command of their bottom line. Its products and services are available for members of The Center for Health Affairs and clients of its subsidiary, CHAMPS Group Purchasing.

Though they have grown significantly since their inception, each of the The Center's subsidiaries began as a program of the association and have been successful in part because of the incubation period within the shelter of The Center’s membership. In 2016, after a donation was made from CHAMPS, the HealthComp Foundation was established with a mission to accelerate a healthy community through high-quality healthcare services, community partnerships and investment.

The Center, located in downtown Cleveland, is proud to advocate on behalf of 36 hospitals in nine counties. Click here for a list of our Northeast Ohio hospital members.
