The Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium

Housed at The Center for Health Affairs, the Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium aims to mitigate the opioid crisis through the Opioid Consortium strategic plan, which includes:

  • Education of hospital employees across the healthcare continuum.
  • Use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
  • Expanded distribution and use of Naloxone.

The Consortium serves as a model hospital system-based and physician-led consortium that significantly reduces the impact of the opioid epidemic in Northeast Ohio.

WHO WE ARE

The establishment of the Northeast Ohio Hospital Opioid Consortium is the result of years of work by community leaders and hospitals to reduce the widespread effect of the heroin and opioid crisis in Northeast Ohio. It is a partnership between:

  • The Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and Northern Ohio
  • The Center for Health Affairs
  • Cleveland Clinic
  • The MetroHealth System
  • Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System
  • St. Vincent’s Charity Medical Center
  • University Hospitals
Thanks to efforts led by the Cuyahoga County Opiate Task Force and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, hospital CEOs from the region agreed in 2016 to lead a hospital-specific response to the crisis. In late 2017, the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio became a part of the Opioid Consortium to connect the Academy’s physician membership with the work of the hospitals.
